Getting Started with Branding
Paul reached out for brand strategy and design because he wanted a fresh perspective on his overall brand strategy and design. In addition, he wanted to have clarity and confidence when needing to talk about what he did.
While he’d been designing books for four+ years, he hadn’t yet worked with a branding professional and gotten clear on the basics of how he wanted to communicate his offerings.

Brand Strategy + Design
After working through the four foundational brand strategy pillars, it became clear that Paul was serving two ideal clients; one was an author/publisher and the other was a small publishing house.
What makes Paul unique is his ability to get to the heart and soul of a book and bring it to life through intentional design. He truly believes that every book deserves to be well designed and the best way to get there is through collaboration.
Brand Values: Advocate, Intentionality, Craftsmanship, Customized, Cuiosity
As a brand personality, the focus was on creating a feeling of appreciation, care and joy. Paul wants clients to feel safe and able to ask questions; he wants to cultivate a collaborative working environment.
The new logo mark was a nod to his original logo that incorporated two paragraph brackets; he liked the concept of bringing a book-related symbol into the logo.
From a Brand Season perspective, Illustrada Design was a balance between Spring and Fall. The flourishes and customized monoline font really bring out the fun personality of a Spring Brand. To incorporate a little fall, we dropped the shade of the colors just a touch.
